Pentax Optio 330
- Comparison with film SLR -

1st Comparison

The enlarged details on the left were taken with the FA 28-80 f/4 zoom lens of the MZ-5, while those on the right are from the Optio file.

It has to be considered that the film image has been scanned with 3200 dpi, thus making a 2890x4290 pixel file, as opposed to the 1536x2048 pixel of the Optio image file.

The detail of the street lamp shows far better sharpness in the Optio picture, with no color fringes. Since both pictures were focused on the bell tower, I believe the difference is mainly due to a different depth-of-field.

In the detail of the tower window the Optio wins about sharpness, while the SLR lens wins about true resolution. Little difference anyway.

More or less same situation in the enlargement of the roof and the cross. My preference is for the SLR image, but difference is little again.

2nd Comparison

t02f18.jpg (48514 byte) t02f19.jpg (47994 byte)

Details are always better in the film SLR pictures. Also, the swallow-tailed merlons on top right corner shows evident blue and green fringes, absent in SLR picture. My explanation is the Optio lens was wide open in that picture, and brightness difference between the sky and the stone was too much to master.
